The Weatherization Program helps income eligible households cut their heating costs and improve the comfort level of their homes by making energy-saving home improvements.
The program is available to homeowners, renters, those living in mobile homes as well as other types of homes, and low-income residents of Douglas, Grant, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, Clay, and Wilkin Counties.
An energy audit of the home is done by West Central Housing Auditors. Local contractors are hired to make the Weatherization improvements. Contractors are licensed and bonded. Agency Housing Auditors make a final inspection of the work before West Central pays the contractor.
The Weatherization Program is required to implement a priority system which includes the elderly, handicapped, high consumers, and households with small children. These targeted groups are the first to receive weatherization services.
What Energy Improvements are Made? Improvements to be made are determined from the energy auditor’s blower door testing equipment at your home. Items may include furnace improvements; minimize infiltration; insulation of attic, walls, and floor, and venting of water heaters and heating systems.
Conservation Improvement Programs - Utilities in our area also provide assistance to our agency to complete weatherization type improvements to eligible households. The following utilities are participating with WCMCA, Inc.: Ottertail Power, Xcel - Electric and Gas, Great Plains Natural Gas, City of Barnesville, Wild Rice Electric Cooperative, and Centerpoint Energy Companies.
