Eleven individuals and organizations were recipients of the DHS Commissioner’s Circle of Excellence Awards, during a ceremony at the Elmer L. Andersen Human Services Building in St. Paul.

Jesson said the Commissioner’s Circle of Excellence Award winners stand out among the many individuals and organizations on the front lines throughout the state, providing critical human services programs and promoting healthy and productive communities.

“These award winners are outstanding examples of how, collectively, we foster healthy people, stable families and strong communities,” Jesson said. “By shining a light on their work, we honor all our partners in human services.”

Ever wish you could find a way to set aside some money for a rainy day?
You can!

Financial Literacy Classes are offered on a quarterly basis.  One set of classes is 12 hours total, but offers a lifetime of good financial management tools.  The 12-hour curriculum will be taught in 2 sessions of 6 hours.

Click the link to view a flyer about the new sessions: Dates for 2012 to be determined.

Cost for the sessions is $25 for the general public but may be FREE or reduced if you are enrolled in a program at WCMCA.

The classes are a part of the Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota Program, that allows participants to save up to $40 per month for 2 years and have it matched at a 3 to 1 rate to be used to purchase a home, for post-secondary education or for opening or expanding a small business.  However, WCMCA has started offering these classes to the public for $25 to cover the expense of the books.  The classes offer information on the Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy:

  1. Budgeting to create savings
  2. Debt reduction and asset building
  3. Building a good credit rating
  4. Consumer protection and financial institutions

If you would like more information on these classes, or on our FAIM Program, please contact Heather at 800-492-4805 Ext. 157. If you prefer you can email: heathert@wcmca.org

All Staff Meetings -

The entire Agency Staff meets twice each year, usually in April and September, at a different location within the five-county service area. The purpose of the meeting is to update staff on new programs and advise of changes in old programs. It is also a good time for team building and to meet any new staff hired since the previous All Staff. Various speakers and programs are scheduled to provide information pertinent to the times and to events happening in the Agency and among Staff. It is an interesting and enjoyable day away from the regular routine and energizes everyone with new ideas and enthusiasm.

Artists Wanted
WCMCA is currently looking for Artists who are interested in a display in our Art in the Halls Exhibit. The purpose of the Art in the Halls Exhibit is primarily to enhance the atmosphere of the Agency, while providing an art experience to the staff, clients, and general public.
